You can use the Shopify Metafield feature to keep track of your inventory location.
The Pick List app supports upto 5 metafields from the product or variant to display in your picklist.
To add a new metafield (for example, called “custom.product_location“), first go to Shopify Admin, click Settings → Custom data → Products. Click the “Add definition” button and fill in the following fields.
Name: Product location (type this and select “Product location” from the dropdown list that appears)
Namespace and key: custom.product_location
ContentType: Single line text
If your products have multiple variants and each variant is stocked in a different place, you will need to add the same metafield (custom.product_location) to Variants (click Settings → Metafields → Variants and follow the instructions above).
If you have multiple Shopify locations you will need to create a different metafield for each of them. For example, custom.nyc_location, custom.chicago_location, etc.
When you edit products or variants in Shopify Admin the custom.product_location metafield will show up at the bottom of the page. You can enter information about the aisles/racks etc. into this field to display/sort it within the pick list app. Ensure you label your Rows, Shelves, and Bin locations so that they can be sorted alphabetically to create the shortest pick path. For example, Row 1, Shelf 3, Bin 5 can be encoded as R01S03B05 (note the padded zero to ensure correct sorting).
Click “Product location” in the menu bar on top of the Pick List app. Type in the name of the metafield that you want displayed in your picklist (custom.product_location) and then click “Set”. You will need to do this once for each Shopify user account that you use with the Pick List app.
The app will display the variant metafield if available and fall-back to the product metafield otherwise.
Note that if you have a mix of product and variant metafields, to sort/group correctly, they must have the same metafield name in both products and variants (for example, custom.bin_location).
